A One-Month Break from League Play Did Not Help with Last Night's Match at Children's Mercy Park.
Orlando City was on a roll going into the break for the infamous Leagues Cup competition. It seemed like the Lions had found their footing with a consistent starting lineup, Ramiro Enrique's goal-scoring prowess, and David Brekalo at full-fitness and partnering well with Robin Jansson in front of Pedro Gallese. Last night, and very unexpectedly, all of those attributes came unglued against Sporting Kansas City.
I will not bother assessing the good and bad from last night. I will point to poor finishing, unforced errors in the middle third, and Martin Ojeda disappearing for the fifty-nine minutes he played (other than the sitter he missed from six yards out). Never mind playing a man up for thirty-five minutes.
What I will mention are the positives: the Lions remain in seventh place in the Eastern Conference and have a week to shake off last night's loss before hosting second-to-last place Nashville on Saturday night. Let us hope that the friendly confines of Inter&Co Stadium provide three points before another long, two-week break int the schedule.
