Made a small little hype video...nothing special, shouts out to the USMNT Communications team/Veritone for the cuts
Matthew Turner, in the MLS playoffs, has been on point, posting an amazing 79 save percentage through 23 shots on target. He's shown he can be clutch in one-off games consistently, only posting one game below 70%. I believe that in the US Men's National Team, Matt can shine. He'll have competent defenders in front of him combined with his ability to stop shots. Tonight should show that ability, as Trinidad and Tobago is bringing in some unknown and uncapped forwards from the Premier Football League in T&T to test him.
USMNT head coach Gregg Berhalter has had some uplifting words for Matt recently. “He had the reflexes last January, but now his whole game is improved and you can see he's gained confidence and that whole season behind him has really improved him, and he's looking sharp.” So, as you can see, Berhalter is behind his #1 tonight, even having some constructive criticism in the same interview. Gregg noted that Turner still needs to work on his distribution from the back and playing with his feet. As a Revolution fan, this is definitely a great criticism.
"So every day just focusing on trying to be present, every rep trying to be present. And I think it's gone well for me so far," Turner preached a bit to those who tend to find anxiety ruining their ascents to fame. Matt has always stayed humble on his climb to this point, always pointing to his coaches and other players for the true rise in his play. However, this past week he pointed to "not trying to do too much in January, not trying to do too little". That's something that can reverberate through the time that Turner ends up continuing to play. He's always just done enough to make his impact on the matches.
That being said, let's hope to see Turner get some good tests in and show us a good night!
