FC Dallas announced yesterday that they had signed Eugene Ansah. The signing comes after star-striker (and main attacking threat) Jesus Ferreira was called up to the USMNT's Gold Cup squad. (Jesús Ferreira Called into U.S. Men’s National Team Duty for 2023 Gold Cup | FC Dallas). Ansah will be under contract for FC Dallas for a year and a half, the club will have an option for the 2025 season. (FC Dallas Signs Ghanaian Forward Eugene Ansah | FC Dallas)
Ansah is listed as a winger. He is probably more of a depth piece than a replacement for Paul Arriola, Alan Velasco, or Jader Obrian. With his presence, Dallas should have more options off the bench and this move should allow them to move one of the previously mentioned wingers to the striker spot while Ferreira is away with the national team.
FC Dallas has been plagued with injury issues, Arriola's last MLS appearance was back in May when Dallas traveled to Q2 to take on Austin FC. (Paul Arriola | FC Dallas) Tomorrow's match (again at Q2 in Austin, Texas) will have a thin squad as they have multiple players out due to injury. Jader Obrian is out for tomorrow's game due to suspension, Jesus Ferreira will be away with the USMNT for a bit for the Gold Cup, and Bernard Kamungo is questionable due to international duty.
Ansah has played for Belgium club K.S.C Lokeren Oost-Vlaanderen and spent time with several different clubs in Israel. He's made one appearance for the Ghana national team. Over the course of his career (which began in 2013), Ansah has scored 50 goals across all of his clubs and has made over 200 appearances.
Ansah is probably not the final piece to help take FC Dallas to an MLS Cup final. Hopefully he can help Dallas' attack get into form while Ferreira is away. Without Ferreira, Dallas is like a lion without teeth and claws. Perhaps Ansah can give Dallas another attacking threat.
