A match that could have gone one of two ways: It was either going to be a shootout with multiple goals scored, or a defensive battle. This match turned out to be the latter of the two. With this being a midweek game, a draw is not the end of the world, even at home, where the Crew stay undefeated. The Crew are unbeaten in 5 straight games, although 4 of those games have been draws.
Takeaways
Eloy Room Continues To Be Sensational
Eloy Room has been a fantastic signing for the Columbus Crew following the 2019 Gold Cup. HE has kept the Crew in many games, and has helped the Crew win many games, and an MLS Cup Championship. He has come up with big save after big save, including the one below from Wednesday Night. Columbus will go as Eloy Room goes, and if he can continue this level of form, the Crew have a chance of winning back-to-back MLS Cups.
Nagbe Continues To Shine
Darlington Nagbe continues to be the engine that the Columbus Crew need. It should not come as a surprise, but Nagbe finished the game with 100% pass accuracy, which he has done so on many occasions throughout his career. On the season, Nagbe tops the Crew in completed passing percentage (96.7), and is at the top of the league in completed passing percentage (Min 10 games). Nagbe is the engine and facilitator for the Columbus Crew, and he will need to continue to do so as long as the Crew want to win.
Marlon Hairston Was A Great Offseason Pickup
Marlon Hairston continues to prove his value to this Columbus Crew team. He, in my opinion, helped change the dynamic of the game when he came on at halftime. His professionalism and leadership has been a valuable asset for the Columbus Crew team, and he continues to be versatile, and play wherever Caleb Porter needs him to play.
What's Next?
Next up for the Columbus Crew is a trip to Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia for an afternoon match. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. The preview for that match will be out later.
